chupahMatzav.com has learned of a number of weddings, including at least three in Brooklyn, NY, and one in Lakewood, NJ, that had been scheduled to take place this evening have been postponed because of Hurricane Sandy, which is bearing down on the Northeast.

“After speaking to the hall and the vendors, everyone agreed that the best thing would be to push it off,” a relative of one baal simcha told Matzav.com. “No one is excited about it, surely not the chosson and kallah, but safety is the priority. The simcha will have to wait.”

All those with simchos on their calendars are urged to double check to ensure that the events are still scheduled. Those who will be traveling are encouraged to use increased caution and follow posted speeds.

Further info about cancelled simchos will be reported soon.

  1. I would like to thank Ateres Avrohom for being so accomodating. The wedding scheduled for tonight in Ateres Avrohom will take place im”yh Thursday night same time same place. May we always share in simchos.

  2. G-d created all the Mitzvot. Better to have a wedding in better weather than to force the issue. G-d is the superset of creation whilst we are the subset. People forget this fact and place their perspective and plans above G-d’s all the time. (This does not negate the fact that there he always leaves a certain number of people down here on terra firma to hold the universe together. These people are called tzaddiks and a very righteous tzaddik who is able to interpret current events for their divine message is called a Na’vi.

Take note all…At the click of his fingers the seas can churn and the earth can tremble. Ignore his power at your will.

  3. Will the greedy wedding halls be refunding the deposits? If you push off the wedding by a few days, it could be a Shayla. Not so pashut to push off a wedding! Bottom line: stop being such immature babies & stop worrying about every little thing the “media” spreads in its lies!

  4. Yes get real. I am sure you are hunkered down in the comfort of your home and have no intention in going any where. I want to see you venture out tonight and drive 90 miles to a friend or family wedding. Stop being such a big talker, phony

  5. Scratching my head over the rhetoric. Why is it necessary to use such adjectives and names?
Did anyone ask a shaila before posting such lashon lo tov?

  6. the journey through storm of Hurricane Sandy is metaphorically related to our journey in life and asked all of them to please do teshuva on whatever doubt blows out your emunah to land you in anger or fear. Our Rock is ein do milvado but if we get blown into the reality of unreality (coping mechanisms instead of neshama) it is Amalek,- doubt -that we are up against in our thoughts.”

May Hashem take our willingness to notice and ask for His help defeating the Amalek within – doubt that takes us out of the reality of neshama into subtle or overwhelming negative charges of every imaginative variety that attach to what may even be wise coping mechanisms- and grant us success!!!!
And may Hashem no longer have the need to sustain the powerful Hurricane Sandy.

  7. Dear Brothers and Sisters of Lakewood

With much of Lakewood NJ still without power for days, I humbly feel that Hashem is trying to send us a message that: “we” are putting out the light the power of the beauty of Lakewood, the largest town in the US of Torah learning. The light of the Kedusha the light of thousands of Torah learners right here in our town of Lakewood is being distinguished by us with our actions

We have more Yeshivas and Mesiftas than in any other town or city in America BY”H so we have more responsibility to keep Hashem happier with our way of life, get closer to Hashem as to be an example to the world how a Ben Torah is to behave

It’s time for all of us to make a Cheshbon Hanefesh and see what could be corrected to bring back the light of the Shechinah to Lakewood the town of Torah and Chessed the town that was build by the big Rosh Yeshiva z”l

If we don’t take the message from this storm seriously who knows what other difficult messages Hashem might have to send us in order to wake up and do Teshuva?

Take a moment and think…are we truly living a spiritual life at least similar to our great grandparents, the way they lived when they arrived in America some 60 years ago? or are we indulged in our clothing, i.e. shoes, jewelry, belt, coat, & mink coats, handbags, boots, sun glasses, non-stop shopping, hunting for bargains, living in restaurants, redoing our kitchens every so often, always planning our next vacations, now Leshem Mitzvah we are busy planning our winter vacation, and of course don’t forget Motzai Shabbos hot Pizza & fries, eating it in the pizza shops with mixed company, we have turned into a major “planning board” not leaving enough time to see and plan our lives as “how to serve Hashem better”

Lets be honest it’s almost impossible to walk the streets and keep our eyes clean, and yes, I am referring to neighborhoods of Bnai Torah and Chassidim, not in Harlem, Miami Beach or Las Vegas etc.

The “Franken-Storm” effect has been felt by many of us, we are all suffering because of it, one way or another, but….. The million dollar question is: are we waking up to Hashems cry?

Now it’s our duty to be strong and say to Hashem:
OK we are ready to change our lives, our materialistic lifestyle that we have lived up to now, will change!!! We’ll start getting ourselves ready for the coming of Moshiach by living a true Torah life. BTW when Moshiach arrives there will be nothing left of all our Gashmius, so get a head start…and get rid of it now. Lets be more careful with all of the Halochos and 613 Mitzovos of our special sweet Torah.

Thank you for giving up your time and reading this note of Chizuk. Please copy and paste in Shuls, schools etc. so others can get Chizuk too.

s.p. It would be nice if everyone takes the Frankenstorm warning from Hashem very seriously to prevent future catastrophes.
