NY Storm Brings Hashgacha Protis and Chesed to Cleveland

telshe-clevelandAnother tremendous storm hit the NY area and once again made transportation by road or air virtually impossible. The return flight from Eretz Yisroel for Rabbi Eli and R’ Reuven Dessler and family was set to arrive in Newark yesterday morning and then transfer to Cleveland later, but due to the weather had to be redirected. Of all the airports that the international flight could have been redirected to, Cleveland was somehow chosen. The reason for this on the ground may not have been so clear, but as an example of hashgocha protis the answer was obvious.

Due to this flight transfer, the Dessler family did not have to miss any precious opportunities to say kaddish with a minyan, and were able to come back to Cleveland to receive the many people wanting to be menachem avel- not even missing the opportunity to make Shacharis at the beis avel the morning of the flight.

But more than this, the other stranded passengers from this flight, 40 of whom were dependent on kosher food and various Jewish necessities, were meant to come to Cleveland to receive the chesed that our community is so well known for.

Immediately upon hearing about this flight being redirected, Yaakov Moshe Berkovic of Davis Caterers and Mrs. Sara Shapiro of Bikkur Cholim (and the many people who volunteer for them) got the ball rolling to get much needed food and other things to this group of people. Kinneret Pizza was churning out pizzas, Dovid Greenberger and his Bagel Shoppe made an innumerable amount of bagels and baked goods. Other people stepped in to help in a variety of ways.

  1. Awesome! I hear and saw the unbelievable Chesed in The Cleveland Community with such wonderful people as Mrs Shapiro, Landau, Moerman and of course Rabbi AJ Kushner as well!

  2. I am not surprised – Cleveland is an amazing city of Chesed! I am glad to see the picture of the Telshe Bais HaMidrash – because, essentially it was Telshe that built the city – and the foundation of the city originated with Telshe alumnus. Telshe Yeshiva continues to give much to the city – as it continues to be mechanech bochurim – and while it may be a bit of a trip down Squankum – it is well worth it.
I am also glad to see some credit given to Mrs. Shapiro – who lives on Telshe Yehsiva Lane and is the wife of Reb Sholom Shapiro – who, I don’t know his official title – but many of us know him as the Tzadik who never sleeps! Mrs. Shapiro works tirelessly and graciously on behalf of the entire city and really through her Bikur Cholim leadership – the entire world!
I could spout accolades all day about Rabbi and Mrs. Shapiro – as well as all the malochim mentioned by comment #1 – We in Cleveland get to experience what I call – ‘living Paysach Krohn/ Yechiel Spero stories each and every day! Plus 3 floor – plus a basement, plus a seperate 2 car garage – plus a front and back yard – costs about $125,000.00.
Ok – I’m done for now!
    Have a Great Shabbos everyone!
