New York City’s public schools are closed today as a winter storm settles in. CBS New York reports that a winter storm warning is in effect until 6 p.m. for the city, the lower Hudson Valley, northeastern New Jersey and southern Connecticut.

The National Weather Service predicts that New York City could see 8 to 12 inches of snow, up to 3 inches an hour. Visibility will be very poor.

To combat the storm, CBS New York reports, more than 2,300 pieces equipment are geared up and ready to go, according to Sanitation Commissioner Kathryn Garcia.

About 1,700 flights have been canceled at New York City’s three major airports.

Readers are encouraged to call their children’s yeshivos and schools for storm scheduling updates.
