NYC Religious Sites To Receive Millions In Federal Security Funds


riverdale-shulNYC is getting more money to protect religious institutions from security threats. According to Congressman Anthony Weiner, the Department of Homeland Security has awarded $5.8 million in grants to protect 80 yeshivas, museums and other cultural and religious institutions in the five boroughs, Westchester and on Long Island.

He says the additional money adds up to a 40 percent increase over last year.

The funds will come out of the nearly $300 million allocated to the state by the federal government.

The announcement comes on the heels of a pending court case against a group of men accused of plotting to blow up a synagogue and Jewish center in the Riverdale section of the Bronx.
