menachem-stark5Yidden the world over, and particularly friends and family of R’ Menachem Stark z”l, are still numb several days after his murder. While much of the attention has been directed at the reprehensible coverage of the story by the secular media, the New York Post in particular, the NYPD and its detectives are piecing together the events that led up to Friday morning, when the body of Menachem was dumped in a trash container at a Getty gas station in Great Neck, Long Island,

Menachem was scorched on both hands and his torso and suffered hemorrhaging to his head and neck.

The lies and misrepresentations spread by the Post and other outlets, both in print and online, have not affected the investigation.

“They know, and are discovering, the truth,” a source said. “Newspapers and bloggers can’t change that.”

The beloved member of the Williamsburg community leaves behind his wife, Mrs. Bashie Stark, and their seven children, five sons and two daughters. His oldest child, a daughter, is 16. His youngest is a one-year-old boy. He is also survived by his parents, Reb Yisroel and Shaine Etya Stark, and eight siblings, five brothers and three sisters.

While police are working diligently, the NYPD said that, at this point, their investigation is “very broad” and they “haven’t narrowed it down to any one thing.”

Surveillance video from a store located near Menachem’s office on Rutledge Street shows that his kidnappers were parked on the block for about 20 minutes before the abduction. Menachem was very close to his car – just inches away, in fact – when the abductors approached him, first just one and then together. He fought them for four minutes until they overpowered him and threw him into a Dodge minivan.

The store manager where the surveillance video was obtained told the New York Daily News that it appeared like someone shot Menachem with a taser, “because he suddenly buckled down.”

The police first viewed the video on Thursday and then returned yesterday to take it away.

Police detectives at the scene of the abduction did find a handcuff and plastic ties there, which may prove helpful in their investigation. The handcuff was presumably to be used by the assailants to hold down Menachem.

Thousands attended the levaya in Williamsburg on Motzoei Shabbos and kevurah took place in Monroe.
