NYPD officers shot a 66-year-old woman in a Bronx apartment on Tuesday after the woman allegedly tried to strike an officer with a baseball bat. The shooting occurred when a police sergeant responded to a call about the woman acting irrationally at her home in the Castle Hill neighborhood just after 6 p.m. The sergeant found the woman alone in a bedroom with a pair of scissors, and after he convinced her to drop them, she picked up a baseball bat and tried to attack him, police said. He fired his weapon twice and she died of her injuries.

At a news conference after the incident, Assistant Chief Larry W. Nikunen, commanding officer of patrol for the Bronx, said police had responded to “several incidents involving this individual with similar types of calls” in the past, but he didn’t provide specifics. An investigation has been opened into the shooting, and it will seek to determine why the sergeant did not use the Taser he had in his possession. The identities of the police sergeant and the woman were not released, but Nikunen said the sergeant was an eight-year veteran. Read more at THE NEW YORK TIMES.

  1. Great job NYPD, so you executed another mentally ill person. Looks like Gideon Bush died in vain, they learned nothing from his police execution.

  2. Plane and simple. This woman was MURDERED by a NYC cop. The little scaredy cat coward cop was so petrified of a baseball bat, that he had to execute her? Because the lowlife Mayor, Bill DeBlasio will cover up for one of his boys, we may never find out what happened and how this incompetent cop got in because of reverse discrimination.

  3. A woman acting irrationally? In her own home, alone in her bedroom where she was not even a danger to others? And apparently this mentally ill person was described as such in the emergency services database because of previous incidents. Why was police even involved?
