Police have released a sketch of a man wanted in connection with two hammer attacks near Union Square. A 28-year-old woman as sitting on a bench in Union Square Park around 7:30 p.m. Monday when the suspect struck her in the head with a hammer, police said.

About 10 minutes later, a 33-year-old woman was walking on W. 17th Street when the suspect came up behind her and struck her in the back of the head, police said. The victim suffered a scalp injury.

Police describe the suspect as a black man in his 30s with a medium build, wearing a black waist length jacket, dark-colored baseball hat, dark jeans, black sneakers, and a black backpack.

Police said there was a third hammer attack at 1:45 p.m. Monday on Sixth Avenue and 35th Street. A man in his 20s was struck in the back of the head and rushed to Lenox Hill Hospital. Police say they are looking into the possibility this attack is connected to the two others in Union Square. Read more at CBS NY.
