The missing Malaysia Airlines plane was not turned around by hand or by autopilot, but had been pre-programmed to do so by someone who had knowledge of how to fly the 777, The New York Times reports.
The person who typed in the series of necessary keystrokes would have had to do so on a knee-high keyboard located between the seats of the pilot and co-pilot and would also have had to been familiar with the series of keystrokes that would make no sense to a layperson, The Times said.
Times reporter Michael Schmidt told Fox News Channel’s Megyn Kelly that it is unclear whether the computer, known as the Flight Management System, was reprogrammed before the flight or after it took off. But investigators know it occurred because the data was transmitted back to the ground before all the data systems were turned off by someone on the plane. Read more.

If the plane was stolen to be used later for terrorism, it won’t be found by conventional means. Anyone smart enough to steal a plane in this way would also have a plan in place to conceal it until ready to be used.
