Obama and Sarkozy Trash Netanyahu Behind His Back

sarkozyFrench President Nicolas Sarkozy reportedly told President Barack Obama that he could not “stand” Prime Minister Binyomin Netanyahu and that he thinks the Israeli premier “is a liar.”

According to a Monday report in the French website “Arret sur Images,” after facing reporters for a G20 press conference on Thursday, the two presidents retired to a private room, to further discuss the matters of the day.

The conversation apparently began with President Obama criticizing Sarkozy for not having warned him that France would be voting in favor of the Palestinian membership bid in UNESCO despite Washington’s strong objection to the move.

The conversation then drifted to Netanyahu, at which time Sarkozy declared: “I cannot stand him. He is a liar.” According to the report, Obama replied: “You’re fed up with him, but I have to deal with him every day!”

The remark was naturally meant to be said in confidence, but the two leaders’ microphones were accidently left on, making the would-be private comment embarrassingly public.

The communication faux pas went unnoticed for several minutes, during which the conversation between the two heads of state – which quickly reverted to other matters – was all but open to members the press, who were still in possession of headsets provided by the Elysée for the sake of simultaneous translation during the G20 press conference.

“By the time the (media) services at the Elysée realize it, it was on for at least three minutes,” one journalist told the website. Still, he said that reporters “did not have a chance to take advantage of this fluke.”

The surprising lack of coverage may be explained by a report alleging that journalists present at the event were requested to sign an agreement to keep mum on the embarrassing comments. A Reuters reporter was among the journalists present and can confirm the veracity of the comments.

A member of the media confirmed Monday that “there were discussions between journalists and they agreed not to publish the comments due to the sensitivity of the issue.”

He added that while it was annoying to have to refrain from publishing the information, the journalists are subject to precise rules of conduct.

  1. Obama was careful. He really didn’t say anything. But we don’t need this to know how he feels.
Maybe this will give Ed Koch the excuse to retract his foolish praise of Obama.

  2. I guess Obama’s finished now. Or will he still try to convince old pensioners in Florida that he really loves the Jews but he just slipped! He slipped and said the truth of what he thinks of Netanyahu. Obama, Sarkozi, Merkel, and the Russian and Chinese leaders could lie all day long about how they’re gonna curtail the Iranian leader if sanctions don’t work. But they simply dont have to keep their word. I guess it’s business as usual, Jews are simply held to higher standards. But the hypocricy is trully alarming. A huge liar himself can’t demand higher standards then he himselfl adheres to. It’s sickening, and if anyone thinks it’s just Netanyahu he could think again. Jews were always held to higher standards but this is a new one. A massive liar himself could dare and demand from other what he himself doesn’t do! Obama I sincerely wish a miracle happens and all the doomsday predictors predicting your reelection just got it wrong and November 6, 2011 is the day of your mapulu.

  3. one would think that world leaders would no better and keep quite, but what this really shows is that as long as we Jews and our leaders play the house and kiss their feet its great, but if we protect our own interests we are hated i would rather be hated then killed as was the case in the 1930’s-1940s

  4. the majority of israelis publicly say that netanyayhu is a liar, i dont know anyone who thinks netanyahu is not a liar, and why would we think that obama thinks any differently than us ?

  5. Do yuo realize that Barack Obama says he believes in G-d and is the first president who constantly uses, and emphasizes the talking point “Jewish Homeland” as being a main reason why the US has a special relationship that is “unshakeable”. Do you realize that Reagan’s admin actually publicly said that the US Israel “relationship is not unconditional” as a threat in response to settlement building in the West Bank.

Do you realize that while GW Bush interfered with Israel in its military operations from 2001 to 2008 Obama has never interfered with a military operation?

Do you realize Netanyahu is an atheist who has taken part in the slow disembowelment of the chareidi community as far back as 1998 ?
Do you realize that the chareidim – both the ashkenzim and sfardi litvish prefer to deal with Labor, if you can believe it, becasue people like Peres didnt lie to them even if they didnt back them in the 80s and 90s and 00s

  6. another reminder of sonay yisroel but also i guess this is a message to us working on shmiras halashon. someone can always hear you…

  7. John McCain:
“I happen to be a great admirer of Prime Minister Netanyahu. I’ve known him for years, and Israel is under more pressure and probably in more danger than they’ve been since the ’67 war and that kind of comment is not only not helpful, but indicative of some of the policies towards Israel that this administration has been part of.”

RNC Chairman Reince Priebus: “After hearing President Obama’s insensitive comments about Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu last week, Americans are wondering: When will Obama start treating Israel like a strategic ally instead of a personal nuisance?… It’s shocking that the President of the United States would speak of the leader of America’s most important Middle Eastern ally in such a reckless way.”

  8. Sarkozy will not win another term as President of France and is therefore playing to the 3,000,000 muslim voters in France, and he knew to whom to make this disgraceful undiplomatic remark without being contradicted.Obama ‘s days as president are also nubered.

  9. I don’t see Obamas comment as a complaint other than it is basically a fact that Mr. Obama must indeed keep a positive relationship with Israel and Mr. Netanyahu. If anything, it comes off to me as Mr. Obama telling Sarkozy that Sarkozy better watch his own step as Mr. Netanyahu is an important ally. This is being blown up by the media and Mr. Obama does not besmirch others. He has never done so and I do not think that he ever will.

  10. TO GEORGE ORWELL –
Are you that naive to consider public (prepared) statements are actually indications of the inner desires and “hashkofah” of adept US presidents and other politicians?
When is the last instance to which you can point is a verbal statement of a (US)politician that coincides with t heir core beliefs?
