obama President Barack Obama touted the Affordable Care Act’s numbers at a press conference on Thursday, noting that of the 8 million signed up, 35 percent are under the age of 35.

Obama noted that premiums have come in at 15 percent lower than predicted, and the incoming cash to the economy will lower the country’s deficit by $100 billion.

Opponents still say the law will lead to an increase in costs and decrease in quality of health coverage. “It’s well past time to move on as a country,” he said to critics. Read more at USA Today.

  1. I don’t understand what there is to boast about. He didn’t give us a choice to sign up. It was either sign up or face a penalty. He’s making it sound like 8 million signed up because they were so excited to have this opportunity. Nothing could be further from the truth. He strong armed us into something that we don’t want

  2. Will somebody please inform the white house that there are 300 million people in this country!
Also, one may offer to do the math for them. Factor in also how much the entire health care overhaul cost, include as well the price tag of the computer program – nearly 3/4 of a billion – plus hardware add in also the salaries of the hundreds of people operating the system and see how much we’re spending for each of his 8 million sign-ups!
Rabosai, if he’s still boasting about it, I suggest we’re in deep trouble!

  3. How many have paid?
How many didn’t have insurance before?
How many had their insurance cancelled?
How many were forced to sign up?

    Questions…….. with no official answers.

  4. “He strong armed us into something that we don’t want”

Halachah is that you can be coerced into doing something you don’t want to do if it if beneficial for you or the community. In the case of health insurance, you need it. Period. Freeloaders who don’t get health insurance dump their medical costs on an unwilling community; essentially, if you are one of those freeloaders and you get sick, you commit theft by forcing those of us with insurance to pay for your care through higher premiums.

Basically, the health insurance system doesn’t work unless everyone is covered, for without universal coverage, you can’t cover people with pre-existing medical conditions. The Republicans have yet to come up with a plan to help people with pre-existing conditions other than to let them die.

And lest you think that this is some radical left wing idea, both Friedrich Hayek and Milton Friedman endorsed the idea of forcing people to purchase health insurance, with subsidies for those who were too poor to afford the market rates. It says something about how extreme hateful that today’s conservatives have become that they think that Hayek and Friedman’s views are left wing.

  5. #4, You are fast and loose with the facts again. See the following:

FACT: Milton Friedman has NEVER embraced socialized medicine EVER!

FACT: Socialized medicine IS classic leftist socialism.

Now you can go back to you Hookah pipe!
