obama-dog[Video below.] President Obama strayed from his prepared remarks at a Labor Day rally Monday to accused his opponents of talking about him “like a dog.”

Obama was in Milwaukee to speak at the Milwaukee Laborfest, attended by Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka. He used the speech to promote his $50 billion infrastructure plan and to criticize Republicans ahead of crucial midterm elections.

“Some powerful interests who had been dominating the agenda in Washington for a very long time and they’re not always happy with me. They talk about me like a dog. That’s not in my prepared remarks, but it’s true,” he told the union crowd.

The president isn’t known to stray off prepared remarks, and also took a more aggressive tone in the speech.

“They’re betting that between now and November, you’ll come down with a case of amnesia,” Obama said. “They think you’ll forget what their agenda did to this country. They think you’ll just believe that they’ve changed. These are the folks whose policies helped devastate our middle class and drive our economy into a ditch. And now they’re asking you for the keys back.”

    >> To criticize the president is absolutely legitimate. To be condescending and insulting (as Obama correctly pointed out is the case with so many of his critics) is a Torah violation. Yidden living in the disaspora must give kavod to the melech, which in this case is the president. This is especially so when it is the president of a malchus shel chessed (as the gedolim have declared the U.S. to be).

So people…any criticism in this thread SHOULD be respectful.

  2. I admire the fact that the “Matzav” treats Obama with the respect a President in this malchus shel chesed deserves. Unlike some other “Frum” news aggregators the name calling is left out.

  3. at least he is finally hearing what the people feel. this is the first thing he has ever said that is really the truth

  4. the frum world should wake up and recognize the reality- not the opinion- of these words

Frum Yidden need to stop listening to nonsense on radio which we’re accustomed to since we dont watch TV and dont have time to explore real sources of history.
From the day Reagan entered office through today manufacturing in the U.S. was pillaged by the economics of the Reagan and HW Bush Clinton and GW bush international economic policies. It’s only because Obama has not had enough moderate and liberal democrats that he didnt do a bigger stimulus and a more cost cutting healthcare plan which was what the original House plan contained ( even though the passed bill is still deficit neutral –it is not however anything like what it could have been in terms of cutting the rate of increase over the coming years.
Thirty years before Obama the aforementioned presidents and republican congresses destroyed manufacturing and did nothing to contain healthcare costs

  5. Dear Mr. Orwell,

Last I remembered, what made the US a great nation was free market and free people deciding how they wanted to purchase their unmet wants and desires. American citizens vote with their pocket books. That being said, no president could have prevented manufacturing from going abroad. American citizen makes their purchases of comodities based on the lowest price possible. Unless American workers can either compete in a global market and bring their prices down, or differentiate their products to make them worth the higher prices, then they just priced themselves out of the market.

The cost of healthcare is high not because of any republican or democratic congress. The cost of healthcare in the US is high because Americans want and value a high quality healthcare. They value capacity, technology, choice and the ability to make high quality decisions and not have a substandard government imposed system placed on them. So Mr. Orwell when you learn something about global macro economics in general and of healthcare specificly then maybe you can comment intelligently. Untill then keep your uninformed childish comments to yourself.

  6. the Comment from Mr. Sheldon proves my point. He comments on topics that he knows nothing about.
Sheldon suggesting that congress doesnt affect markets … is not the statement of a man with knowledge of the subject with which he speaks. For one category of example to prove this, Sheldon is obviously unaware of the overarching reality of U.S. international treaties. Sheldon is obviously unaware that Congress decides who to tax. Sheldon is obvious unaware that Congress refused to allow Americans to choose a public option if they wanted to. Sheldon is unaware of what the public option could decide to require of hc providers who freely chose to participate in a public option with regard to cost cutting and efficiency.

one last thing, back onto manufacturing, Sheldon isnt aware of the markets of manufacturing that congress coulfd have open in our hemisphere for private enterprise to compete with China – more favorable business tax status is an easy example as a means of helping business fund it.

  7. Dear Mr. Orwell,
Once again you are blind to reality.
We have a public option for the poor. It’s called medicaid and it’s broke.
We have a public option for the elderly. It’s called madicare and it’s broke.
Every time government gets involved with healthcare it’s a failure. If you want the best medical care in the world at your beckoning call, with high technology, easy access, options of treatment and the best trained healthcare staff then you need to pay for it. You can not sell a Lexus for the price of a Ford escort. If you want socialized medicine don’t assume it’s not going to cost more. Instead of calling it premiums and copays , it will be called higher taxes for all.

Finally, it has been governments regulations and tarriffs that have further pushed the price of goods and services up. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Americana are not interested. They are still going to shop at Walmart because that’s where the lowest price is. At the end of the day we make our own beds that we sleep in. That is what freedom is about.
