obama3President Obama is pulling no punches when it comes to Fox News, declaring the cable news outlet to be “destructive to [America’s] long-term growth.” In a more than 8,000-word interview with Rolling Stone Magazine, Obama compared the cable news channel to papers owned by William Randolph Hearst at the turn of the 20th century that unabashedly pushed the media titan’s own political views.

“You had folks like Hearst who used their newspapers very intentionally to promote their viewpoints. I think Fox is part of that tradition – it is part of the tradition that has a very clear, undeniable point of view,” Obama told the magazine.

Officials in the Obama White House have long made Fox News a punching bag, launching a full blown offensive last year when aides declared the network to be “opinion journalism masquerading as news.” Then-White House Communications Director Anita Dunn said the cable outlet “operates almost as either the research arm or the communications arm of the Republican Party,” and top aide Valerie Jarret called Fox “clearly biased.”

But the new comments from Obama constitute the president’s most direct attack yet on the network owned by business mogul Rupert Murdoch.

Fox News pushes “a point of view that I disagree with. It’s a point of view that I think is ultimately destructive for the long-term growth of a country that has a vibrant middle class and is competitive in the world,” Obama said.

“But as an economic enterprise, it’s been wildly successful. And I suspect that if you ask Mr. Murdoch what his number one concern is, it’s that Fox is very successful.”

Fox has yet to respond to the president. But during the administration offensive against the network last year, network spokesman Michael Clemente slammed the White House for continuing “to declare war on a news organization instead of focusing on the critical issues that Americans are concerned about.”

  1. let obama say what it really is destuctive to obama he doesn’t want any news org. to put out the facts fox doesn’t lie they just give you the news and u decide that’s what scares them they were never ever accused by any democrats of lying

  2. it is unfortunate that the president is engaging in self censorship…if he didnt think it would hurt him he would say the complete truth: that is, that much of Fox is intentional planned dissemination of jingoism and Republican “statements of fact” that are false. Also, Fox often presents statements of fact when the statement is unverifiable. If someone presents an unverifiable statement of fact that without even so much as a claim about the objective evidence, then we call that “LYING”.
( * If you present a statement of fact when no evidence is even offered, then that is a lie. Most recently, a couple of days ago, the Republican Party presented a position on economic “recovery” for the U.S. that they want to execute when they win the House in November. In the position paper, and afterwards, even now, despite the claimed beneficial future results in their plan, NO ATTEMPT HAS EVEN BEEN OFFERED BY THE REPUBLICANS AS TO WHAT THE MATH IS BEHIND THE CLAIMED STATEMENTS OF FACT IN THEIR PLAN. They offered no MATH at all.
On the other hand, every professional trained in economics who offered a position on the math claims the Republican claims in the plan are impossible. — that there is indeed no math that can back up the statements of fact claimed in the Republican plan. But Fox reports the PLAN as though it is one real legitimate side of the story. So is much of the mass media.
    Pathetic

  3. That’s just wonderful. Fox News is the only news network not dominated by liberals who voted for, campaigned for, and approached issurei avodah zara in their haste to anoint Obama. Therefore, Fox is biased… it all makes sense now.

  4. An expert’s opinion – ‘matza min es mino’.
A sitting President has no business attacking specific entities he disagrees with. It cheapens the office and in this case, shows how petty he really is, concerning himself with non-issues instead of things that are important to the citizenry.

  5. So now freedom of speech is off the table, First Obama is going after Fox for being “bad for America’s long term growth”, next it will be any person or organization that is against him! Don’t worry soon it will be the Jews!
    Be Careful!

  6. I remember a few years ago the morning after the israeli day parade the new york times had a front page article of the parade half the front page showed protesters to the parade and a small caption of the parade itself.how many protesters were there about 15 to 20 how many at the rally 500000 one got a half of front page the other a tiny picture o canceled my subscription to nyt I didn’t hear any democrats screaming how biased the nyt is.but at least bush would joke about it he would say at a press confrence with friends like the nyt who needs enemies he did it with class this president is a angry person who can’t take any criticism from anyone the views shared by fox are the views of most of this country he’s just upset he may loose majority of the house and senate and needs to blame someone mr. president if u want to blame someone take a hard look in the mirror.

  7. I’m not here to comment about the specific views of Fox news or any specific publication – but it does seem to me that the charedi American community has subtly adopted a rhetoric which is a bit extreme in its anti-liberal views, to the point that many of us will gladly agree with any commentator who bashes Obama, whether the specific claims used are correct. It seems as if this kanoyus has replaced the critical logic which is necessary to properly discern political matters.
I, too, am a staunch conservative, but I believe in politics based on facts rather than on hot air or anger.

  8. I think our president needs to be reminded of America’s freedoms, ie: freedom of speach, freedom of the press, free market, free people etc.
