obama-birtherThe business of memorializing our war dead done, President Obama headed out to the Fort Belvoir golf course today, finding his way onto the links for the ninth weekend in a row.

Obama earlier today laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and met with families of those killed in battle. But he emerged from the day’s solemnity to go golfing for the 12th time this year and the 70th time of his presidency.

The decision to golf on Memorial Day invites comparison with President George W. Bush, who gave up the game early in his presidency and said he did it out of respect for the families of those killed in Iraq.

Obama is out with the three younger aides he typically has in tow on his golf excursions, junior White House staffer Ben Finkenbinder, White House Trip Director Marvin Nicholson, and Energy Department staffer David Katz.

In a sign of his determination to play no matter what, Obama is golfing even though it is currently 95 degrees at Fort Belvoir and it “feels like” it’s 98 degrees, according to The Weather Channel.

  1. You ghouls should give the man a break. He was just in Missouri where he spoke and he was just over seas. Everyone needs some down time.

  2. BREAKING NEWS: Matzav.com was seen in the kitchen fressing on a luscious piece of potato kugel (again! You should see THE boych).

Even more incredible is that the potato kugel has been on the counter since Shabbos and tastes like it has been out for weeks according to kugelchannel.com.

  3. This do nothing, President is a total waste of our tax dollars! We ought to throw this bum out of office next year.

  4. No one is saying he shouldn’t take a break. The question is the propriety of doing it on Memorial Day, which is a day of mourning and remembering. He definitely seems to be aloof from mainstream America.

  5. The amount of pressure this guy gets is unbelievable, he’s been in office for almost three years already, which means he’s probably gone golfing once a week… not bad for a man with so much on his mind.
(Bush’s favorite past time was biking- not golfing! he biked in early mornings for hours on end)

  6. #’s 1 and 2:
    100% correct.
But it might have been more appropriate – not to mention sensitive – to push it off until Tuesday.

  7. Nebach, he just worked so hard going to London getting Royal comfortable treatment! He should have been rallying with our troops on Memorial Day, thats what Bush or Clinton would have done! Its quite similar to what he did during the oil spill crisis, he’s on par with our dedicated Mayor Bloomberg, out vacationing when he know a snow storm’s on the way!

  8. hes just doing what everyone else in this country does on memorial day, nobody views it as a day of mourning, but as a day off from work and a good bbq and relaxing day, so obama is just taking advantage of the day for what it is in america

  9. Yum arent double standards delicous! While bush may not have played golf on memorial day he did go bike riding “Bush was at the White House through 3 p.m., the time he asked Americans to pause for a moment to remember the fallen. Then, he went to a Secret Service training facility in Beltsville, Md., just outside Washington, to ride his mountain bike for about 90 minutes.” USA today 5/26/08
Id love to hear somebodys spin on how golf is different than bike riding.
Oh and #8 “mourning” really? Not on my planet, on my planet memorial day is a day of sales and bbq’s. What planet do you live on?

  10. George W. Bush gave up golfing in 2003, explaining why he did it:

“I don’t want some mom whose son may have recently died to see the commander in chief playing golf,” he said. “I feel I owe it to the families to be in solidarity as best as I can with them. And I think playing golf during a war just sends the wrong signal.”

  11. Why is it posted? Obviously, just because the Editor wants to say something bad about the President, and it’s getting harder. Bin Laden is dead, the birth certificate has been released, The Donald has conceded (for the time being). It’s getting tougher, so….

And did the Editor go to any memorial services? Does _anybody_ any more go to memorial services except friends and relatives of fallen soldiers? How short our memories can be.
