immigration-borderPresident Obama asked Congress on Tuesday for $3.7 billion in emergency funds to deal with the immigration crisis caused by tens of thousands of unaccompanied minors crossing the border from Mexico. The amount was almost twice as much as predicted.

The White House says it wants to boost funding for immigration judges, aerial surveillance, border-patrol agents, and new detention facilities. Half of the money requested would be used to improve the care of children as they go through the deportation process.

“We are taking steps to protect due process but also to remove these migrants more efficiently,” a White House official said. Read more at The New York Times.

  1. “How about a better fence.”

40% of illegal immigrants arrive legally on temporary visas; a better fence won’t affect this. And it isn’t so much the physical fence that matters, it is the degree to which the border security is able to enforce the border. Budget cuts have made this much more difficult and that is why Obama is asking for the money.

  2. Why wont the President visit the Texas border? He claims he is so concerned. He is a phony and should be exposed for who he really is.
