muslims-palestinians-yerushalayim-prayIsraeli authorities will allow Palestinians from the West Bank into Jerusalem on Tuesday to celebrate Laylat al-Qadr, a Palestinian official said Sunday.

Jihad Jayyousi, the chief Palestinian liaison officer, told official news agency Wafa that Palestinians will be allowed to cross checkpoints from 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

Laylat al-Qadr is one of the holiest nights in Ramadan, and marks the anniversary of the night when Muslims believe the Quran was first revealed to the prophet Muhammad.

Thousands of worshipers headed to Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque last Friday.

Men aged over 40, women and children were allowed to enter Jerusalem from the West Bank without permits for the Ramadan prayers, Israeli police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld told Ma’an.

The Al-Aqsa Foundation said in a statement that Israeli forces had erected checkpoints around Jerusalem and on roads leading to the city.
