Interim Mayor Michael Applebaum was arrested Monday morning and charged with 14 counts of fraud, breach of trust, and conspiracy.

Applebaum, who has denied any wrongdoing, became mayor in November after his predecessor, Gérald Tremblay, resigned in the wake of a massive corruption scandal. Applebaum was allegedly involved in shady real estate deals from 2006 and 2011, but investigators did not give more details about the case.

“These allegations rest essentially on obtaining permission and political support on two real estate projects,” said Capt. André Boulanger of the Sûreté du Québec, the province’s police force. Read more at CNN.
