tornado-oklahomaDespite the 7 percent budget cuts imposed on the National Weather Service – a result of the sequester – the agency says it was still able to provide “ample warning” to residents of Oklahoma.

In a statement from the group’s parent agency, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, officials said that the NWS issued tornado warnings 16 minutes before the storm hit.

Just one month ago on its website, the Weather Service assured the nation that its diminished staff would not hinder its ability to provide the public with “life- and property-saving forecasts, watches, and warnings.” Read more at Politico.

  1. Prayers for the deceased and injured from this terrible tornado.

It seems clear that all homes and public buildings in the tornado belt of the central USA region need to have either a mandatory underground emergency bunker or a heavy duty concrete structure half submerged/above ground where people can retreat to when a tornado appears on the horizon. If there are enough of these structures then as many people as possible will be able to reach them in time before the devastation hits. Obviously early warning systems can help with observers as well in place at strategic points. As Genesis makes clear we should have dominion over the earth, so we must “get on top” of natural disasters. Vigilance is required. The solution is not permanent abandonment of all these lands because of the extreme weather risk. We should respect the natural elements but not surrender to “Mother Earth”.

  2. Number 2:

That’s what Dovid HaMelech was referring to when he said “niploh na byad Hashem uvyad odom al epoila.”

  3. The truth is, is that ur right mayim56,

(BUT BY A DISASTER WHICH YOU KNOW IS ON YOUR HEAD AND IT’S NOT NATURAL. MORE LIKELY A HURRICANE WHCIH IS AN ANYTHING, NOT MAN MADE!)
