Anti-Semitism needs blood libels and every blood libel needs legal proof. It seems that the legacy of fear and hatred towards the ultra-Orthodox public is so deeply-rooted in the heart of the Israeli consensus that it prevents it from examining affairs related to this society on a case by case basis. This week’s “hot affair” was definitely the case of the “starving mother.” The shocking photos in the newspapers, reminiscent of images from concentration camps, showed what a famished child looks like, and the pictures of the haredim who protested against the arrest of the mother showed to the readership what the charedi community “really is.”Finally, the “real” evidence the public has been waiting for since the riots in Yerushalayim broke out, have been given.
We knew we should not give in to those charedim. We knew that it will start with them interrupting our Shabbos shopping, but who knows where it will end? And now the facts are revealed! Right under our noses lives a group of “blacks” that abuse children; a closed cult that defiantly protects a mother who starves her son. Who knows what else is going on under the roofs of Meah Shearim?
The war of the sons of light against the sons of darkness has begun. The good against the bad; the enlightened against the child abusers.
And the mayor’s ruling? Collective punishment. No municipal services will be given to the entire neighborhood. No more taking out the trash, no firefighter or social services. And the reason, naturally, is the charedi riots and the sincere concern for the welfare of city employees. Send the starving mother to jail immediately!
And now to the minority opinion:
Assuming the facts are true, we are dealing with the tragic story of a woman who is suffering from a serious mental disorder, “Munchausen Syndrome by proxy,” according to the welfare services (who have not even concluded diagnosing the woman). This is a severe, rather rare syndrome that causes sufferers to harm those dependent on them as means of getting attention and sympathy from their surrounding.
These sick people need professional help and can be dangerous to those who are dependent on them.
They therefore need to be removed from their loved-ones as long as they are unaware of their problem and as long as it is not being treated.
This is exactly what the welfare services are there for: To provide proper care in such cases, including issuing restraining orders when a person is deemed dangerous to those around him.
So, why was the case handed over to the police? What do police investigators have to do with the personality disorders of a sick woman, who happens to be five-month pregnant? What will they be investigating exactly? Why is the treatment of this woman not being handled by the welfare authorities, which are the natural, legal branch for treating her?
And, should the need arise, the welfare services have the authority to ask he court for a restraining order. In the event such an order is violated, the police can always be brought into the picture.
Why were the police waiting for her upon leaving the welfare offices, contrary to the position of mental health officials, and arrested her in front of the press? Where are the women’s organizations when it comes to charedim? Where are the human rights groups?

Either she claims she is an unfortunate victim of a horrible personality disorder, and goes to a ?psychiatrist for medication management to control the symptoms, and allow social service ?involvement. She is grossly irresponsible and a danger to herself and others by refusing to get help. ?She refuses to back up the veracity of the claims that she deserves pity for an illness by going to a ?mutually agreed upon psychiatrist. Since she refuses to use the normal channels of doctors and social ?service, the police must protect the child.?
Or, she maliciously starved her own child in a horrific display of Abuse 101. In this situation why ?wouldnt the police be involved??
Plus, a restraining order made by the social worker is only as good as the police to back it up. Since it is ?clear that this mother has no intention of following court orders, the police had to get involved.?

there are So many things look Suspicious in this story, so how can you just see the police’ side.
Also this women was treated like an animal, Placing her together with an Arab female who allegdlly killed her husband, She’s a 5 mos. Pregnant women and they let sleep on the floor for 10 days without a pillow and mat…
There’s a big difference between Police getting involved or all of the above, placing her in prison for 11 Days without bail.
Even if she C”V has a Mental illness [Remeber! she wasn’t diagnosed yet.] does that mean she’s Dangerous to walk on the street??
And now after she went tru this Gehenem in the Israeli [not Iranain] jail, the askanim feel that she needs rest in order to go tru this evaluation, which btw you can’t see the results on a blood test etc. which means that it depends much on her mood in the time of the Evaluation.

Just think about a women with a Shaitel [NOT a black Tichel] living in Bnei Brak [NOT in meah Shaarim], and belonging to Viznitz [NOT Toldos Aron] and I think you’ll understand it better…
First of all she officially will be going for a checkup when she’s up to it. She’s “only” five months pregnant after all! Additionally, given the track record of the israeli government, I wouldn’t blame anyone for refusing to cooperate. This condition is so hard to properly diagnose that it makes it the easiest accusation to use.
To make this a clear cut two-way picture is cruel at best. Are there not any other possiblities to entertain. Could it be that maybe,just maybe there is another side to this story, besides the notoriously anti charedi police, media and court?
Before jumping to conclusions let’s try to put ourselves in this family’s shoes. What would you do if you were in communist Russia (or even nowadays – not much different!) and your wife was accused of such things? Of course the authorities claim they only want your good. What would you do? food for thought….

You bet the Haredim were shown for what they really are. Ramapging through the streets like animals, smashing public property, screaming obscenities, burning toxic waste etc. etc.
Yes, you bet they were shown as they really are. Or are you saying the pictures and video shots were all made up.

What a stupid question.
1) If she starved her son to 7kg, it was a crime.
Obviously, the evidence given to the police was strong enough to convince the police/DA that this was really the case.
2) Even in pure welfare cases, when parents don’t cooperate (which seems to be the case here, acccording to multiple testimonies), the police intervenes, since the welfare authorities alone have no coercive power.
Would the same comments be there if a non-frum woman was sent to prison for allegedly starving her son?
Whether or not she is guilty, in the US, this woman would be sent to jail as well. Her son could have died, and the police believe she is responsible. She would not willingly have stepped out of the picture, and his life was at stake.
Should she be proven innocent, she will have been jailed unfairly. People are arrested on a regular basis when accused of crimes, and if she is guilty, this is, indeed, a crime, with a very real victim who cannot defend himself.
Why is the hospital denying any transfer to a hospital of the family’s choice? Why aren’t they being transparent in the medical records and treatment they have done for SIX MONTHS — the child was starved under hospital care, not at home by the mother. The mother claims they used her kid as a research subject or possibly did a misdiagnosis. If the hospital were so innocent, they would allow a medical team from the USA or from Britain to examine the child and the records. They are not letting. WHY? I would assume because they are guilty as you know what.

If a mother is able to starve her child 6 months in the Hospital, then they have to arrest the ones in the hospital that are in charge.
