Israeli Deputy Minister Michael Oren told the Harvard Alumni Club in Israel that “America today is not prepared to send a meaningful force to the Middle East. This is an America that is prepared to sit on the sidelines while half-a-million people are murdered in Syria and while Europe is flooded with refugees,” Channel 10 reported.

Oren added, “This is an America that is not prepared to intervene in Syria, this is an America that doesn’t want to be the world’s policeman, and prefers to focus on its own internal issues. This is a reality in which we are going to have to learn to stand on our own two feet.”

  1. This assessment would make sense if the USA was consistent about its policy of non-involvement in foreign affairs, and focusing instead on its own internal issues. However the USA’s foreign policy has been inconsistent on this. Some examples are, its involvement in effecting regime change in Libya, involvement in internal Egyptian politics, and its obsession with Israel.

  2. Deputy Minister Michael Oren is probably correct, but being that he’s a member of the Israeli government a little circumspection may not have been a bad idea.

  3. It is very important for the US to retain it’s role as the worlds super power and policeman. Becuase if is steps down from that role a far more militaristic and sinister regime will step up to fill the vacuum. And in the end the US will be dragged into the conflicts it successor as superpower creates anyway
