brooklyn-collegeConcerned students at Brooklyn College and members of the BC community have expressed their deep concern over the fact that an event entitled “BDS Movement against Israel,” which is scheduled to take place on the college campus on February 7, is being co-sponsored by BC’s Political Science Department, along with several other virulently anti-Israel student and community organizations that support the boycott of Israel.

The event will feature Omar Barghouti, the founder of the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel, and Judith Butler, a professor at the University of California who has supported numerous campaigns to boycott Israel, including the US Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel. Both Barghouti and Butler are publicly on record calling for the elimination of the Jewish state.

“There is no doubt that the purpose of this event is to promote campaigns to boycott Israel, campaigns which the U.S. Department of State considers to be anti-Semitic, and the Jewish community considers to be an assault on the Jewish people,” said one student. “This event cannot help but promote hatred towards the Jewish state and hostility towards the vast majority of Jewish students at BC who identify with the Jewish state.”

Students are outraged that BC’s Political Science Department is sponsoring an event which promotes hatred of the Jewish state and its supporters.

“We believe that the department’s sponsorship serves to condone and legitimize anti-Jewish bigotry, and that it will contribute significantly to a hostile environment for Jewish students on our campus,” added a student.

Students have called on the Political Science Department to rescind its sponsorship of this hateful, hurtful and discriminatory event.

  1. Who are the students that are protesting? We should have a BIG pro-Israel rally. Please make any counter events public.

    Am Yisrael Chai!

  2. It’s time that we Jews Stop being gentleman When a Jew speaks on campus he is chased from the stage. Time to do the same here. Make him know f
He is not welcomed. But even more concerning our tax dollars are paying for this.

  3. I just called the chancellor’s office. I was the first call. People should be flooding the phone lines. The secretary said she would read your post and let me know exactly who should be contacted

  4. Reformed Democrat has it right NO MORE GENTLEMANLY reactions to anti semetic activity. Tar and feather Omar and Judith and send them back from whence they came AM YISRAEL CHAI

  5. Thank you for to long we allow our selves to be beaten
Betrayed and play the martyr when we demand respect we will get it

  6. Perhaps Chuck Schumer can exert a little behind the scenes pressure.

Perhaps Dov Hikind, Dave Greenfield, Simcha Felder and otherrs could use behind the scenes tactics to prevent this heinous event from taking place.

  7. DON’T help publicize this. A similar event at Harvard would have attracted a few dozen attendees until the Jewish Community gave it huge amounts of free publicity.

The correct response is to wait until it is over, and then, one day later, announce a big pro-Israel teach-in on a Sunday a month or two later. And make should that it sells out. Israel supporters at Harvard did that; it should be even easier at Brooklyn College.

  8. Campus, a place of learning should be a place of peace, not of potential violence. Suggest the college (univ.) administration should ban this demo. and keep peace. Save money on police overtuime.

  9. As an alumni of BC I find it disheartening that the authors are so perturbed with the idea of an open forum for educational purposes. The comments above are an indication of obviously closed minds. Reminder, here in America the first amendment is a guarantee that unpopular ideas can get an honest hearing. I commend BC for allowing this forum. Perhaps you can peaceably attend and listen to ideas that are normally outside of your purview. Be tolerant. Live and learn.

  10. I note that you don’t mention any specific students.

Also, can you cite when the State Dept. said BDS was antisemitic?

Finally, why do you conflate criticism with the policies of Israel as a state, and actions meant to impact those policies, with antipathy towards Israelis and people of Jewish descent?

  11. This is not about having an open mind. This is not a forum where pro Israel positions can be explained on stage with this rubbish, allowing the listener to make an informed decision. Let’s see if Brooklyn College would allow me to book the KKK to explain their side of the debate ion affirmative action. People express your opinion freely and consistent with the first amendment.
Let the attending audience know that there is another side to this debate.
