displacedWith conflict in Syria, South Sudan, Central African Republic, Iraq, Kenya and Afghanistan, there are now more displaced people worldwide than at any time since World War II.

According to the United Nations, the number for 2013 is in excess of 50 million people. That number is likely to be even higher, because it does not count the most recent fighting in Iraq.

“We are seeing here the immense costs of not ending wars, of failing to resolve or prevent conflict,” U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees António Guterres said in the report. The report is released annually on World Refugee Day by the U.N.H.C.R. The countries hosting the most refugees are Pakistan, Iran, and Lebanon. Afghans, Syrians, and Somalis make up the majority of refugees. Read more at The Washington Post.
