Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas signed papers on today to join the International Criminal Court in order to push for the prosecution of Israeli officials.
The move comes just a day after a resolution demanding that Israel end its occupation of Palestinian territory by 2017 was defeated at the United Nations.
The move to join the ICC will likely incur sanctions by the U.S. and Israel. It also could backfire on Palestinians, because while they will try to bring cases against Israeli settlements and military operations, they could also face charges at the court. Read more at the New York Times.
