As Israel’s most densely populated city, Bnei Brak’s open space is scarce and on the decrease.

Yidden living next to the town’s Netziv Boulevard were shocked at plans to cut down eight small palm trees in their street to provide room for temporary classrooms and fought the decision on legal grounds. The municipality has agreed to leave the trees unharmed for a few months until further developments.

Municipal workers showed up recently and began cutting down the precious trees but were stopped in time to save most of them.
