Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas is set to meet with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Monday for discussions on advancing Israeli-Palestinian peace efforts, The Jerusalem Post reported, citing a Palestinian diplomat.

The two leaders were also both scheduled to attend the World Youth Forum in the Sinai Peninsula’s Sharm El Sheikh resort town on Sunday.

Abbas last met with the Egyptian President on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in September. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held his first public meeting with El-Sisi at the same UN gathering.

In addition to playing a mediating role between Israel and the Palestinians, El-Sisi’s government has arbitrated between rival Palestinian factions—the PA-ruling Fatah party and the Gaza-controlling terror group Hamas—throughout their current attempt to form a unity government.

Egypt will host a meeting of senior Palestinian officials in late November to resolve remaining obstacles to forming the unity government, including Hamas’s refusal to disarm.

In September, separate Hamas and Fatah delegations visited Cairo for meetings with Egyptian officials amid Palestinian reconciliation efforts.
