In a big move, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office announced this morning that it is canceling six federal trademark registrations for the name of the Washington Redskins.
“We decide, based on the evidence properly before us, that these registrations must be canceled because they were disparaging to Native Americans at the respective times they were registered,” the board said.
The board has removed the team’s trademark protections in the past. In 1992, the board ruled the trademarks were disparaging, but a federal court overturned it on a technicality.
The decision only affects the right to register the trademarks, but won’t stop the team from using them. However, it will make it much more difficult for the team to sue somebody for using the name and logos. Read more at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Ultimately, this is unfortunate. But of course, we are living in changing sentiments and changing holds on liberty. The reality is that the cancellation of the trade mark rights is a confusing dilemma by which a government authority is legislating human reaction.
The sad story is that we have a very affluent football team which is not being courteous to the feelings of a very small minority though growing sequence of many voices against a perceived notion of hate versus magnanimous replacement of time and dignity.
True, the Redskins was a word that was once in history used by a few to be deriding and hateful; but time is not a stage for affluent neglect. The world of the Redskins has been anything but hateful of the very people who were the inspiration for the history of the Americas that were conditionally used as incentives for many sports teams. There is a spirit of good breaking speed in an Indian name and thus it was a popular idea for sports teams to latch upon for their spirit.
I am sad to see this era today, but I do think that we being very intelligent Americans can indeed find good ways to represent our sports passions in the upcoming many decades and more for personal and hopeful disposition among all people living in America.
Still, I am going to side with the Redskins who I think are being innocently maligned against true spirit of all the modalities involved.
And myself a friend of the Cleveland Indians will be very sad if there is the next step to remove Chief Wahoo who as a child I used to draw as a friendly experience when I was in summer camp. It really made me feel like I could enjoy baseball. That innocence is now regulated by an unsavory feeling of Hate before Conquest.
Not exactly the future I imagined as a child, but people do have issues and some times feelings.

Never liked the Redskins. As the youngest Quaterback (24) to ever start a Superbowl, I lost to those Redskins. John Riggins was way overrated, though. We lost because I couldn’t complete any passes in the 2nd half. Plain & simple.
