Vice President Pence will lead the U.S. delegation to the Winter Olympics in South Korea amid nuclear tensions with North Korea, a senior administration official said Wednesday.
The trip isn’t just meant to support American athletes participating in the games. The official said Pence and second lady Karen Pence are making the trip to reinforce the strong U.S. presence on the Korean Peninsula and send a clear signal to the North Korean government.
The Winter Olympics are being held in Pyeongchang from Feb. 9 to 25.
