Pentagon Missing $800M Spent

pentagonThe Pentagon can’t account for around $800 million of transactions spent and received by the Marine Corps in 2012, according to the auditors at the Government Accountability Office (GAO).

The errors had been noticed by the Pentagon’s auditors, but the office was apparently influenced to approve the department’s report, according to the GAO report and internal emails.

The Pentagon has a 2017 deadline to become fully auditable. The Marine Corps’ fiscal director disputed the “significant” weaknesses pointed out in the report. Read more at the Center for Public Integrity.
