peresThis morning, Israeli President Shimon Peres paid a visit to the Wolf-Holtzer sukkah in Yerushalayim where he revealed what he believes is the secret to his longevity. “I got to meet the Chofetz Chaim,” related the 86-year-old Peres, “and he blessed me that I’ll go on to greatness and live long.”

The gathering was hosted by Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi Rav Yonah Metzger.

Peres reminisced about his childhood and spoke about his growing up in Poland, where his grandfather served as a chazzan during the Yomim Noarim.

Rav Metzger, during the course of conversation, discussed the fate of soldier Gilad Shalit and expressed hakoras hatov to the Ribono Shel Olam for the good news received by Klal Yisroel on Erev Yom Tov with the release of a videotape confirming that Shalit is alive.

The gathering featured the participation of various rabbonim and public figures including the rov of the Kosel, Rav Shmuel Rabinovich, and others.

  1. NEBACH!! NEBACH!! A person that was zocheh to c the chofetz chaim, got a bracha from him &look at what he turned out,&he,s not even embarrassed or ashamed to tell it NEBACH!!!!!

  2. nebech, indeed – last i checked, according to peres, the chofetz chaim was not even a Jew, since he holds that a jew is a supporter of israel, and rav shach brings aidus that the chofetz chaim was against zionism – oh well.

  3. Yah, but look at his amunah and hakarah, he knows it is because of the bracha he recieved from the Chofetz Chaim; that’s already a darga(and not bicochi atzmi where people think it’s the”great” Israeli army protecting “Israel.”)

  4. Thats the difference between all you negative nay sayers and the Chofetz Chaim. The tzadick was able to forsee that he will not be a religious Jew and never the less still gave him the bracha so that in his old age he will be able to think back and admit to the public that it was because of the chofetz Chaim.
rabosai , this is why Moshiach is not here , because of all you individuals that have no love for a jew that is not religious.
Why cant we have a little ahvas yisrael for every jew no matter what his affiliation to Judasim might be.
The Baal shem tov expressed sincere love for all Jews, we should try and emulate that somewhat

  5. TO #7-I’m sure you’ve learned the sugya of “DAN LEKAF ZCHUS” and probably when you learned it, you went through the CHOFETZ CHAIMS seforim on it.What amuses me is how you missed how many times the “CHOFETZ CHAIM” writes that it’s only by somebody who is “OISEH MA’SEH AMCHA” which is black & white in chazal.ALSO-I’ve learned through MOST of all the CHOFETZ CHAIMS seforim & yes he had a certain amount of RUACH HAKODESH,but you need to b a fool to say that the chofetz.. knew that he will end up not religious & gave him a bracha “IN ORDER” that one day he will admit in public that it was the bracha of the chofetz chaim.WHAT?????.LAST-please dont embarrass the BAAL SHEM TOV

  6. Rabbosai:

What makes you believe it’s true? Could Peres produce any witnesses who saw that the Chafetz Chaim bentched him?

The brocha of a tzaddik is miskayem. How is it that Chafetz Chaim’s brocha, that Peres “go on to greatness and live long” was not miskayem but in the mind of Peres? He thinks he achieved greatness. You know better that he didn’t. Maybe, he got no brocha from the tzaddik.
