Philadelphia Yeshiva Selects New Mashgiach
Yeshiva Gedolah of Philadelphia has selected a new mashgiach for the yeshiva. The position of mashgiach has remained vacant since the petirah in July 2008 of the beloved Rav Avrohom Golombeck zt”l, who served as mashgiach for many years. The new mashgiach is Rav Yisroel Dick, a talmid of the yeshiva and a popular rosh chaburah at Beth Medrash Govoha in Lakewood, NJ.
Yeshiva of Philadelphia, one of the prominent mekomos haTorah in the United States was founded in 1953 at the behest of the Lakewood rosh yeshiva, Rav Aharon Kotler zt”l. The yeshiva is currently led by the rosh yeshiva, Rav Shmuel Kamenetsky, who together with his fellow rosh yeshiva, lhbcl”c, Rav Elya Svei zt”l, raised a generation of talmidei chachomim and marbitzei Torah.
The two highest shiurim in the yeshiva are now given by Rav Yehudah Svei, a son of Rav Elya and a son-in-law of Rav Leib Bakst, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Ateres Mordechai in Detroit, and Rav Shalom Kamenetsky, son of Rav Shmuel and son-in-law of Rav Yisroel Meir Kagan, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Toras Chaim in Denver. Rav Shalom is well-known as one of the most well-spoken and knowledgeable young roshei yeshivos in the Olam Hatorah and his counsel is sought on many issues.
In addition to the passing of Rav Golombeck almost two years ago, the yeshiva sustained the loss last year of the rosh yeshiva, Rav Elya Svei zt”l, and Rav Yaakov Stefansky zt”l, a longtime maggid shiur at the yeshiva.
