On Erev Rosh Hashanah, on the way to the mikvah, Rav Chaim Kanievsky was shown a box of shattered smartphones.

It was explained to Rav Chaim that the phones had previously belonged to people who undertook to do away with their smartphones as a kabbolah for the new year.

Rav Chaim wished those who made this kabbolah “bracha v’hatzlacha.”

  1. There are so many tzedaka organizations that take unwanted cars, furniture, clothing, sukkas and food – would it be possible for an organization to accept used smartphones and sell them to non-Jewish customers?

  2. I just want to say goodbye to everyone as i am about o smash my computer after being inspired by this dumb shallow piece of news that should not be publicized. Dnt get me wrong i am very for filtered internet, i am just anti eshugaim who have nothing better to do then try to tell people thay need to smash their phones or they are going to gehinom.

  3. I would ask those well-meaning individuals to please, next time, sell the box of smartphones to nonjews (alibaba will do if they are afraid of ebay) and then I will personally take care of destroying the cash. Destructively destroying all of the cash, in a constructive way though. That said, I am envious that not only they have everything they need, but also they have run out of people who could use some extra money.
