[Photos below.] They came by car, bus and train: over 10,000 Satmar Chassidim converged on Crown Heights Motzoei Shabbos, packing packing into the massive 42nd Infantry Division Support Command Armory on Bedford Avenue for the annual Melave Malka benefit for the Satmar institutions led by Rav Aharon Teitelbaum of Satmar.
The storage center for artillery and offices of the National Guard, located on Bedford Avenue between Union and President Streets, is also used as a movie set.
The event, which celebrated the Satmar Rebbe R’av Yoel’s escape from Europe during the Second World War, had over 10,000 people packing every inch of the room, with thousands sitting at long tables and bleachers lining the walls.
