Prior to the kevias mezuzas, the new section was formally opened by Mr. Arkady Gaydamak, the well known and esteemed patron of the hospital who three years ago rescued it from certain closure and who today remains personally involved in seeing that there will be a secure future for Bikur Cholim, the only hospital facility in the center of Yerushalayim.

The participation and presence of the two luminaries of the Torah and Chassidic world, together with Mr. Gaydamak, sent a strong message of encouragement for the future to the staff of the hospital and those working tirelessly on the revitalization plan now in progress to ensure the continued operation of this 187 year old veteran Yerushalayim institution.

The Deputy Minister of Health Rabbi Ya’acov Litzman was prevented from participating at the last minute due to the passing of his sister.

Following the formal ceremony, the Rebbe and the Ga’avad were joined by Mr. Gaydamak in meeting with the Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Raphael Pollack together with representatives of the group working on the revitalization plan.

The Sadigura Rebbe mentioned how apt it is to have such a successful maternity unit as part of a general hospital. The simcha generated by every Yiddishe neshama that comes into this world gives simcha and brocha to Am Yisrael.

In his address, the Ga’avad spoke warmly of the hospital’s achievements thanking the doctors and staff of the hospital for their magnificent work in assisting more Yiddishe children to enter the world and blessed them with continued success in the future.

For Mr. Gaydamak, he had special words of praise, giving a brocha that he should be rewarded with much mazel from his great mitzvah of supporting Bikur Cholim Hospital.

Rabbi Mordechai Sholom Yosef Friedman, grandson of the Sadigura Rebbe, and the Rebbe’s emissary in overseeing the advancement of the revitalization plan, spoke of his personal appreciation to Mr. Gaydamak and also Rabbi Ya’acov Litzman for all he has done for the hospital, especially during the last few months, and expressed his confidence that Rabbi Litzman will persevere in being a powerful advocate for the continued future of Bikur Cholim.

The Rebbe then visited the new born nursery and the premature babies special unit, where the Rebbe was most impressed by the devotion of the doctors and nursing staff, who he thanked warmly and blessed with continued success in all their endeavors. Before leaving the Rebbe emotionally bentched all the new born babies.
