toronto-tornado-small[Update and Photos below.] A massive storm cell ripped through the Greater Toronto area, with multiple reports of tornado touchdowns outside the city, resulting in at least one confirmed fatality in the town of Durham, Ontario. Early reports also indicate a tornado touching down near Vaughan Mills and cars having been flipped on Highway 400, as well as tornadic activity in the city of Toronto itself, but these have yet to be confirmed as the storm continues to move eastward. Reports, photos and videos also lit up on Twitter.

As of this morning, Eruv Toronto was assessing what action needs to be taken in order to determine the status of the eruv for Shabbos due to the severity of last night’s storm. Their dedicated staff of volunteers and paid employees will give updated information as they work through their strategy for today. It is imperative upon everyone to make certain they stay updated on the status of the eruv for this Shabbos. Eruv updates will be posted as soon as new information is available.

Update, 2:15 p.m.: Matzav.com has learned from Toronto eruv volunteers that the eruv for Shabbos Parshas Shoftim is kosher. The eruv did not sustain any major damage whatsoever, but many areas of the eruv, particularly in Thornhill, had to be examined just in case the storm caused damage to wires or polls utilized for the eruv.
