I don’t get it…
according to Lubavitch “minhag” (i.e. Russia) the “real” nittel is January 6 not December 25.
So WHY ARE THEY PLAYING CHESS on Dec 25 ????
#1 according to minhag chabad nittel is when most of the people celebrate their holiday so it depends on the country you live in not where you originate
To “Think Again”: The subject of when to apply the minhag not to learn on nittel was discussed between the Lubavitcher Rebbe and the Divrei Yoel of Satmar. The Rebbe explained that the reason we refrain from learning is so that we should not be mosif chayus to klipa. Therefore, the correct date depends on when the goyim celebrate in that particular place (and has absolutely nothing to do with when our ancestors were noiheg back in Russia or Hungary).
