  1. Gutte/Guttel is from gut (goot), the Yiddish word for good, as in א גוטע פרוי, אן אשה כשרה.

    In Litvishe Yiddish it is pronounced gut (goot). In the Southern Yiddish dialects spoken by many Chasidim, the u (oo) sound is changed to i (ee), so Guttel becomes Gittel to them.
