[Photos below.] Republican Congressman Chris Smith has represented Lakewood for decades. His accomplishments as the community’s sole representative in the U.S. House are many, and he has been a particularly loud voice on human rights issues. His work in the effort to bring home Yanky Ostreicher from imprisonment in Bolivia did not go unnoticed by the Jewish community at large, and he won plaudits for his unstinting efforts in the bleakest of times.
On Sunday, Smith visited his home district, first touring Bais Medrash Govoah, where he spoke to some of the bnei Torah there.
He then attended a luncheon at the home of Dr. Rich Roberts, a staunch supporter of the Republican Party and host to several presidential contenders.
The event was attended by a slew of askonim and elected officials, led by Mayor Isaac Akerman.
Roberts has become a go-to destination for aspiring Republicans. He has previously hosted fundraisers for Senators Rand Paul, Arlen Spector and Lindsay Graham, all potential 2016 Republican presidential nominees. Governor Scott Walker, another presidential hopeful, and former Congressman Allen West have also been guests of Dr. Roberts.

What is Chris Smith running for?
Arlen Spector (a Jew) was niftar two years ago. I doubt that he still hopes to run for Pontus.
Will congressman Chris Smith help Governor Chris Christie run for president in 2016?
