Pings May Not Have Come From MH370

malaysiaThe search for Malaysian Airlines flight 370 may be back to square one. The four acoustic pings that have been driving the search for the still-missing plane may not have actually come from it. Authorities now believe that the pings did not come from the plane’s black box, but probably from some other man-made source.

“Our best theory at this point is that (the pings were) likely some sound produced by the ship … or within the electronics of the Towed Pinger Locator,” said Michael Dean, the Navy’s deputy director of ocean engineering.

A seven-week search of 329 miles of ocean floor was largely guided by the pings, which now means it was effectively for naught. Flight 370 disappeared on March 8. No evidence of the plane or the 239 people on board have been found. Read more at The Telegraph.
