mrs-chaya-newmanElizabeth, NJ – The community will be coming together this Sunday evening, December 2, 2012 at 7:30 PM to honor and pay tribute to the memory and legacy of Mrs. Chaya Newman, A”H, the former principal of Bruriah High School, who passed away in September.

Mrs. Newman, A”H was the preeminent educator for Jewish girls and built the Jewish Educational Center’s well- known high-school Bruriah High School into North America’s most prestigious orthodox institution for girls. Her educational system and methods have been copied the world over and her influence is felt in families across the globe. Former students have called her a “mentor, a teacher, a leader, a role model, a mother…” and her alumni total in the thousands, spanning the decades of the 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s.

Due to the timing of her passing, there was no official shloshim and this memorial gathering will serve as the community’s opportunity to come together and pay tribute to all she has done on behalf of our community and indeed world Jewry.

The event will take place at Bruriah High School 35 North Avenue in Elizabeth, NJ.

There are decades worth of alumni all around the world who studied under Mrs. Alumni from across the tri state area will be in attendance. There will be a live hook-up to Israel and the program will feature various esteemed Rabbonim, family members from the Newman family who have never been heard from, fellow educators and alumni.

It is open to the public and attendance is free. Refreshments will be served.
