west-bank-ariel-settlementsThe central unit of Yerushalayim Police arrested Rabbi Yisrael Ariel and Rabbi Doc Stein, both members of the organization ‘Sanhedrin,’ that called upon settlers and right-wing activists not to recognize the authority of the court system in Israel.

Knesset Member Michael Ben-Ari (National Union) commented on the arrested, saying, “A worrisome trend has recently emerged within the State Prosecution that is characterized by persecuting rabbis and philosophers. We haven’t heard that they behave this way with Arab sheikhs.”

  1. What a Pandora’s Box ! This case involving what the correct boundaries, roles and responsibilities of the various bodies involved in jurisprudence in the State of Israel should be is timely. All organisations must have a certain clearly defined command structure, whether it is an army, government, rabbinical court or company. The best organisations have the best leaders at the very top, because invariably the philosophical orientation, mood and tone of the group trickles down. Perhaps what G-d wants is for a more formal command structure involving a Sanhedrin and divinely mandated Monarchy to be established in the Holy Land.
