prisonPope Francis wants to abolish life-long incarceration and likened the sentences to a “hidden death penalty.” The pontiff addressed a delegation from the International Association of Penal Law on Thursday when he railed against the world’s treatment of criminals.

“All Christians and men of good faith are therefore called upon today to fight, not only for the abolition of the death penalty…but also to improve the conditions of incarceration to ensure that the human dignity of those deprived of their freedom is respected. And this, for me, is linked to life sentences. For a short time now, these no longer exist in the Vatican penal code. A sentence of life (without parole) is a hidden death penalty.”

Francis also made a veiled attack on U.S. rendition of terrorism suspects, facilitated by European countries. Read more at The Guardian.

  1. Great Pope. More starvation. Murderers being released. And a cooperative public that has to live with it. Sounds like jesus is more than a criminal spree. He is the criminal cult too. Of course, we knew that from the beginning.

    Terrible Idea anyone would think.

Murderers belong behind bars. LIFE LONG.

  2. The pope doesn’t have to worry he has armed guards with him where ever he goes and has the safety of the Vatican in a secret apartment that he lives in. The ordinary people have to walk the streets, take ordinary transportation, go to live ordinary lives without armed guards protecting them where ever they go. I guess you can say anything as long as it is not your problem. Some people are so dangerous life is the only thing that saves the common folks.
