port-authorityThe Port Authority of New York and New Jersey will hire a consultant to conduct a security review. The agency operates the major airports in the New York metropolitan area, along with four bridges, two tunnels, the PATH rail system and shipping ports.

The Star-Ledger of Newark reports Port Authority Chairman David Samson said the audit was not in response to concerns raised by the Port Authority Police Benevolent Association.

The PBA has criticized security at the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan and at the Kennedy airport monorail.

Eighty-four Port Authority employees died in the attack on the World Trade Center. United Flight 93 left Newark Liberty International Airport before it was hijacked and crashed in Pennsylvania on Sept. 11, 2001.

  1. The entire security process is a sham and a joke. When passing thru the Battery Tunnel a 12 passenger van is searched. A large minivan which is larger is NOT checked. A large 60 passenger yellow school bus goes by without any inspection ever. All empty yellow buses just glide through. Can you imagine what chulila, heaven forbid, can be placed in a bus?

Everything mind over matter. Total waste of money. More damage can chulila be done by a large sedan that is not checked.
