Obama: Ask Osama bin Laden if I’m an Appeaser

obama-bin-ladenA fed-up President Obama fired back at GOP presidential hopefuls who claimed he runs a soft foreign policy – by pointing to the notches on his belt as proof of his toughness.

“Ask Osama bin Laden and the 22 out of 30 top Al-Qaeda leaders who have been taken off the field whether I engage in appeasement,” dared Obama during an unscheduled White House news conference Thursday.

Several GOP White House hopefuls – including current favorites Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney – attacked the President’s record the previous day during a Republican Jewish Coalition conference in Washington.

Obama used the May slaying of the terrorist mastermind – and the killings of nearly two dozen of his lieutenants – as a rebuttal to the GOP’s questioning of his track record as commander in chief.

He also warned Congress that they wouldn’t be going home for the holidays if they don’t extend a unemployment insurance and a payroll tax for middle-class Americans.

“This is about making sure that everybody is doing their fair share and that the middle class does not see their taxes go up by about $1,000 in 23 days,” Obama said.

“I’ve made very clear I do not expect Congress to go home unless the payroll tax cut is extended and unless unemployment insurance is extended,” Obama said.

The payroll tax deduction is scheduled to expire at the end of the year.

“It would be wrong for families, but it would also be wrong for the economy as a whole,” the President said.

Republicans and Democrats on Capitol Hill have not been able to hammer out a compromise on how to pay for the tax break.

Democrats still want the nation’s wealthiest to pay a surtax to cover the middle-tax break.

Republicans have been dead-set against any tax hikes.

A feisty Obama also slammed Republicans who had blocked his choice to head the nation’s new consumer protection agency, created in the wake of the financial meltdown.

  1. Oh sure, it is REAL difficult to sign off on the plans for killing Public Enemy No.1 especially when Obama, I mean Osama, is such an easy target. The President had no measurable opposition to carrying out this goal. The “decision” becomes even easier when all the planning and execution has already been performed by others.
I don’t see this as any sign of conviction or show of character other than that of pursuing self interest and using this great feat of leadership as a hollow billboard.

  2. Obama ordered the Navy Seals into Pakistan with out their government’s knowledge or permission (an act of war really). Intelligence wasn’t completely sure if Osama was even at the compound.

If Obama was wrong it could have potentially ruined his presidency (even in the eyes of his supporters). Read the headlines: “President Obama commits treasonous attack on our biggest middle eastern ally over weak intelligence.”

It was a big risk, one Bush was afraid to take.
