A number of readers have written in to Matzav, wondering about the upcoming presidential debates and how the busy Yom Tov schedule might affect their ability to listen or watch these events.
Message to those readers: No worries. There will be virtually no conflict.
As you know, the first debate was held on Monday at Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY, moderated by Lester Holt of NBC Nightly News.
The one and only vice presidential debate will be held on Tuesday, October 4, Motzoei Rosh Hashanah, to be moderated by Elaine Quijano of CBSN and CBS News at Longwood University in Farmville, VA.
The second presidential debate will be held on Sunday, October 9, two days before Erev Yom Kippur, at Washington University in St. Louis MO, with moderator Martha Raddatz, Chief Global Affairs Correspondent and Co-Anchor of ABC’s “This Week” and Anderson Cooper of CNN.
The second presidential debate will take the form of a town meeting, in which half of the questions will be posed directly by citizen participants and the other half will be posed by the moderator based on topics of broad public interest as reflected in social media and other sources. The candidates will have two minutes to respond and there will be an additional minute for the moderator to facilitate further discussion.
The third presidential debate will be held on Wednesday, October 19, the first day of Chol Hamoed (in chutz la’aretz) at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas, NV, with moderator Chris Wallace of Fox News Sunday.
The format for the third debate will be identical to the first presidential debate.
