A new taxi app could give New York City consumers more options during the holidays, so they will not have to deal with unreasonable fares. Competition is on the rise, and the value of cab medallions is on the decline. Thus, Upper East Side City Councilman Ben Kallos (D-5th) has introduced a universal hail app.
The app will allow New Yorkers to e-hail any one of the 19,000 yellow and green cabs that participate.
“Yellow and green cabs don’t have surge pricing,” Kallos said. You know what the fare’s going to be when you get in and sometimes you’ll even have a flat fare when you’re traveling to or from an airport.”
The proposal would need approval from the City Council, as well as the Taxi and Limousine Commission. CBS NEW YORK
