Israel’s State Prosecutor is asking for 5-7 years in jail and a fine of NIS 1.2 million for former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, following his conviction for bribery in the Holyland case. The request was made in the sentencing hearings before Tel Aviv District Court Judge David Rosen yesterday.
“The punishment in the Holyland case should be heard far and wide, be proportionate to the severity of the acts, and deter others, because the picture that emerged in the case is rare in its severity and in its effect on the State of Israel,” said prosecutor Yehonatan Tadmor. “It is rare in the scale of the corruption, the amount of the bribery, the identity of the individuals who made the bribes and were bribed, and in the huge scale of the projects involved.” Read more at Globes.
