In Bnei Brak, shortly before Shavuos, the elderly Sanzer chossid, R’ Noach Gershuni, passed away at the age of 105.

Gershuni began working for the Tel Aviv chevra kaddisha after he reached Eretz Yisroel at the age of 27, starting as a hearse driver and later serving as head of the organization for over forty years.

His duties included maintaining contact with the heads of the Pathological Institute of Abu Kabir, who were notorious for implementing unnecessary autopsies and stealing body parts. But Gershuni gained their complete trust, even receiving an office in the building for his own use, and won many victories in preserving the honor of the dead.

He was attached heart and soul to the rebbes of Sanz, starting with Rav Yekusiel Yehudah Halberstam of Sanz-Klausenberg (1905-1994), who used to stand in his honor whenever he came to wish him mazal tov at simchos. Gershuni’s levayah began in Bnei Brak and continued to Har Hazeisim, where he was laid to rest.

Yehi zichro boruch.
