Protest in Manhattan Today Over Ashkelon Graves

barzilai-medical-center-ashkelonA mass demonstration of 50,000 Orthodox Jews is scheduled to take place today, at 4:30 p.m., on the streets next to the Israeli consulate at 800 2nd Avenue in Manhattan. The demonstrators will protest the ongoing construction by the Israeli government at two ancient cemeteries, one in Ashkelon and the other in Jaffa.

The demonstration will coincide with the visit to Washington of Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, who is directly involved in the decision regarding the cemeteries.

“The government has made the decision to proceed with desecrating these cemeteries, although many alternative suggestions for the construction have been offered,” said Rabbi Benzion Loeb, one of the organizers of the demonstration. “Their complete insensitivity to Judaism and to the feelings of observant Jews stands in stark contrast to the behavior of other countries, whose governments canceled construction plans that has been discovered to have been encroaching upon ancient Jewish cemeteries.

Rabbi Gary Schlesinger said, “Every nation throughout the globe scrapped plans to build on Jewish cemeteries such as France, Poland, Switzerland, Spain even Germany and respect their deceased to rest in peace, only in Israel with a Zionist government, the deceased don’t have peace.” Said Rabbi Schlesinger, “It should therefore come as no surprise that such a so-called Jewish state digs up ancient Jewish graves. In fact, the graves they desecrate are those of the very same Talmudic Sages whose guidelines the Zionists reject.”

  1. Rabbosai,It is important Bnei Torah show the zionist regime a show of force here in America, in opposition to the zionist’s repeated and constant brutal harassment of religious Jews and violation of their religious and personal rights.

I will iy”h be at the protest.

  2. What is the point of this demonstration?

Is there no other choice besides rallies and demos when there is a difference of opinion. At least there will be no burning of tires, destruction of property, breaking thru barricades, attacks by police and throwing of rocks at this event.

  3. They want to demonstrate davka today, when all bnei Amalak cry out for “peacefull” Gaza flotilia? Wheres AHAVAT ISRAEL?

  4. The arabs will demonstrate against Israel and the frum will. Today is the wrong day considering whats going on in the middle east. The demonstration should be cancelled for today.

  5. “Rabbi Gary Schlesinger said, “Every nation throughout the globe scrapped plans to build on Jewish cemeteries such as France, Poland, Switzerland, Spain even Germany and respect their deceased to rest in peace”

So what’s the point in broadcasting to the world that Israel is desecrating graves, so they can follow suit & point to Israel as a precedent??

  6. #10 — I know some people are leaving from BMG at 2:00. You can ask around the Yeshiva, and you should be easily be able to find some rides to the rally in Manhattan protesting the zionist brutality.

  7. Lo mugbal:
Wheres AHAVAT ISRAEL of the Zionists to the frum Jews?

Wheres AHAVAT ISRAEL to the Jews whose remains are buried there?

    Meir:
You expect us to celebrate a “Jewish” state that has less respect for us than goyish ones?

    Yanky Weiss:
You know why? Because they’re afraid of the Arabs, because they’re violent. Is this a message that the Zionists understand only violence? Is this an invitation to burn garbage cans? You betcha.

  8. #11 and none of those nations removed the bones and buried them respectfully somewhere else. HUM, sort of makes you think twice?

  9. Anybody else notice how the Lebanon War followed the pride parade and this Gaza fiasco follows the excavations?
