Protests Erupt After MN Police Shooting

minneapolisHundreds of protesters rallied against Minneapolis police Monday night, shutting down northbound Interstate 94 in response to the police shooting of a black man during an apparent struggle.

Police responded to a call about an assault early Sunday and arrived to find a man interfering with paramedics helping the victim. A struggle ensued and one of the officers reportedly shot the man. Witnesses said the man was handcuffed when he was hit, but police allege he was not.

Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges called for a federal civil rights investigation in the “interest of transparency and community confidence.” Minnesota’s Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has already launched a criminal investigation. He was taken to the hospital, where his family said he is on life support. Read more at the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
