R’ Burech Yehudah Halberstam Recovering Following Shooting

williamsburg-shootingAs reported here on Matzav.com last night, a 25-year-old chassidishe man shot was shot in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, shortly after midnight, during a robbery attempt.

R’ Burech Yehudah Halberstam, a son of Rav Zalman Halberstam, Av Bais Din of Tchakove, and an ainikel of Rav Moshe Halberstam zt”l of the Eidah Hachareidis, is in stable condition at Bellevue Hospital after he was shot once in the stomach.

The shooting took place around 12:20 a.m. on South Ninth Street in Williamsburg when R’ Burech Yehudah was approached by two men, believed to be either black or Hispanic. Police said one of them pulled out a gun and shot R’ Burech Yehudah once in the stomach.

A witness followed the van, with the gunman on board, and at one point, one of them pulled out a gun and made treats, causing the man to back off the pursuit.

The witness continued to follow from a distance and the perps jumped out of the van on Jefferson Avenue in Bed-Stuy. The van was later found on Jefferson Avenue. No arrests have been made at this time.

The incident took place in front of 156 South 9th Street and Driggs Avenue in the confines of the 90th Precinct in Brooklyn.

The United Jewish Organizations of Williamsburg has announced a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for this crime. The final determination of eligibility and payment of the $5,000 will be made by those offering the reward and not the New York City Police Department.
