It is with great sadness that we report the passing of R’ Shmuel Binyomin Finkelstein z”l.
R’ Shmuel Binyomin was a longtime member of the hanhalah of Beth Medrash Govoha in Lakewood, NJ. He devoted himself b’lev v’nefesh to the yeshiva, displaying great dedication to Beth Medrash Govoha and going above and beyond the call of duty at all times. R’ Shmuel Binyomin worked for the yeshiva for over 50 years.
R’ Shmuel Binyomin served as a rov for many years in Irvington, NJ.
His wife, Mrs. Ruth Finkelstein, was a famous and talented author, and the “inventor” and writer of the adored Mendel the Mouse stories in Olomeinu.
The levaya will take place today, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., at the Bendheim Bais Medrash of Beth Medrash Govoha in Lakewood.

Doing a google search of Rabbi Finkelstein, z’l – I came across this obituary. Growing up an assimilated Jew in Irvington NJ, Rabbi Finkelstein gave me bar mitzva lessons (June, 1967) in his Irvington Shul (Chevra T’hilim Tifereth Israel). I’ve since become Hozer B’tshuva and moved to Israel. I remember the Rabbi as a kind, patient man; may his memory be for a blessing.
He was the Rabbi who taught me what I needed for my Bar Mitzvah and oversaw it in Irvington in his Shul. That was in 1963. Very sorry to see his passing but glad he had a very long life. Only rabbi I was ever able to relate to in my youth. God bless his soul.
hes my great grandfather. I remember him as a big tzadik and he always was happy and smiling. May his neshama have an aliya.
